SEOUL, Aug. 21 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Interior and Safety has asked citizens to watch out for bee stings as bees are expected to become more active with the rising temperatures.
Between 2015 and 2019, 69,890 people received medical treatment after getting stung by bees.
Among them, 55.8 percent (38,970 people) were stung in August (27.6 percent) and September (28.2 percent).
By age, people in their 50s were stung the most (27.5 percent, 19,247 people).
The number of deaths caused by bee stings amounted to 12 people in 2017, 10 in 2018, and 9 in 2019.
“Studies suggest that the human body reacts more violently to bee stings as it ages, which calls for seniors to take caution,” the ministry said.
