Coupang Tops No. of Mobile App Users for Past Three Years

SEOUL, July 24 (Korea Bizwire)Coupang, an online shopping site, was tops in terms of mobile app users among major e-commerce companies for the past three years.

According to market researcher Neilsen Koreanclick, Coupang maintained its top position in the Korean e-commerce industry, including open markets, home shopping and composite online shopping malls in terms of its number of mobile app users, with approximately 7.5 million users, beating the runner-up by 1.4 million.

An official at Coupang said, “Since July 2012, we have maintained the top position in mobile app transactions in the e-commerce sector. Already 25 million, or half of Koreans, have installed the Coupang app on their smartphones, and up to 83 percent, and an average of 78 percent of all transactions are generated by the mobile app.”

Coupang is the first company in the e-commerce industry to apply specialized mobile commerce services, and it has been a trendsetter in the e-commerce industry in Korea.

The company introduced a “flicking” service for the first time in the Korean mobile shopping industry. The service enables users to swipe a mobile screen like book pages, and to easily find out  information about various products. Coupang has used its expertise to develop services customized to each user.
