DAEGU, Jul. 4 (Korea Bizwire) – The 2024 Daegu Chicken and Beer Festival, one of South Korea’s premier summer events, kicked off on July 3 for a five-day run in Daegu’s Duryu Park and Pyeonghwa Market areas.

This annual celebration, known locally as the Chimaek Festival (a portmanteau of “chicken” and “maekju,” the Korean word for beer), invites attendees to savor the beloved combination of fried chicken and cold beer while enjoying various performances and activities.

This year’s edition introduces a novel attraction: a dedicated space where visitors can cool their feet in icy water while indulging in their chicken and beer, offering a refreshing respite from the summer heat.

The festival’s main stage is situated in the 2.28 Freedom Square in Dalseo-gu’s Duryu-dong. Organizers have constructed an open-style stage in the center of the grass plaza, ensuring that festivalgoers can view stage events from any vantage point within the venue.

Beyond the central stage, the festival boasts an array of themed areas designed to enhance the visitor experience. These include a premium chimaek lounge, a Hawaiian-inspired ice pub, a chimaek sunset garden, and a chimaek hot summer disco tent.

The premium chimaek lounge has been expanded from 960 seats last year to 1,500 seats this year, accommodating more visitors in comfort. The Hawaiian ice pub is housed in a large tent, providing shelter from both summer heat and potential rain.

Throughout the festival, the organizing committee has scheduled a diverse lineup of entertainment to keep the excitement high. This includes K-pop concerts, electronic dance music (EDM) parties, folk concerts, busking performances and rock music shows, featuring a wide range of invited musicians across various genres.

In a nod to environmental concerns, the city of Daegu is committed to making this year’s festival eco-friendly, aiming to reduce pollution and resource waste. To this end, the organizers will distribute 75,000 reusable cups and 85,000 reusable containers of three different types throughout the festival grounds.
