SEOUL, Jan. 5 (Korea Bizwire)A racing simulator developed by Hyundai Motor Co. for the purpose of exhibitions and testing turned out to be effective in the rehabilitation process for patients with brain injuries.

The carmaker entered a partnership with Beata María Ana Hospital in Spain last October to provide racing simulators for the rehabilitation of brain injury patients.

The racing simulator renders the experience of driving in the World Rally Championship virtually.

Spanish media outlets have reported that the hospital has been using simulators for various rehabilitation treatments, and has been seeing meaningful results.

One of the brain injury patients has seen his medical condition improve after using the simulator for three months.

“We have reshaped the racing simulator software to cater to our medical needs, and it has helped the patients improve their cognitive abilities such as concentration, speed and recognition, as well as motor functions,” said Dr. Marcos Rios Lago from Beata María Ana Hospital.

The simulator also helped patients understand the issues and limitations they may face following their brain injury and learn about the risks of driving before they are fully ready to do so.
