SEOUL, Jan. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries on Monday issued a notice on the action plan for this year’s supply of eco-friendly ships.
Under this plan, the ministry will inject a total of 311.9 billion won (US$253 million) into the public sector.
It plans to build 46 public ships as eco-friendly ships, including 30 hybrid fuel ships and seven liquid natural gas (LNG)-powered ships, as well as mounting diesel particulate filters on 20 ships.
The oceans ministry plans to develop optimized standard design by ship and eco-friendly technology, aimed at making the shipbuilding process cheaper and faster.
It plans to spend 34.7 billion won to promote the private sector’s introduction of eco-friendly ships.
When building eco-friendly ships, the ministry plans to provide a subsidy equivalent to 10 to 30 percent of the cost.
It will also provide eco-friendly facility subsidies and partially cover interest expenses.
With these initiatives, the ministry plans to subsidize the construction of 14 eco-friendly ships and the installation of eco-friendly facilities for 302 ships.
