SEOUL, June 24 (Korea Bizwire) – Soju cocktail fever ignited by Lotte Liquor’s “Soonhari” series is being prolonged with the addition of “Jamongeiseul,” a grapefruit favored soju from Hite-Jinro.
Hite-Jinro announced on June 23 that it had sold it’s entire stock of 1.15 million bottles of the grapefruit soju cocktail just one day after its release on June 19. “Restaurants and bars also sold all of their supplies in the first weekend of its release,” the company said.
Jamongeiseul is a 13 percent low alcohol fruit soju, and was first supplied to restaurants and bars in the metropolitan area such as Gangnam Station, Hongdae, Garosugil and others on June 19. The company plans to expand its supply to other areas nationwide when supply catches up with demand.
An official at Hite-Jinro said, “With the roll-out of the fruit cocktail soju product, we will expand our portfolio to meet consumer demand. Based on our accumulated distillation knowhow, we will build up our lead in the market.”
The fruit cocktail soju craze began with the citron flavored “Soonhari”, which was launched in early March by Lotte Liquor. As of May, Lotte had sold 22 million bottles of the product.
