SEOUL, Dec. 12 (Korea Bizwire)South Korea aims to create 260,000 jobs in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector by 2022, the ICT ministry said Tuesday.

According to a roadmap crafted and announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the government will create the jobs by fixing relevant policies and utilizing the latest technology.

In order to do so, the ministry said it will first construct models by 2020 to predict how the fast-paced transformations of the “fourth industrial revolution” would change jobs in the future.

The ministry said the revolution is radically shifting the economic landscape and changing the nature of jobs, requiring policymakers to face challenges in human resources development and job creation.

Under the plan, 27,900 positions will be created in the unmanned vehicle sector, along with 12,000 research positions and 10,000 laboratory researchers.

Earlier, the ministry said drones, self-driving cars, unmanned ships and agricultural machines are the key strategic areas that are undergoing the revolution.
