SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Korea Bizwire) – Nine bus stops in Seoul’s Seocho District have specially designed heated benches that figure to be highly popular throughout the remainder of winter.
Incorporating “nanocarbon surface heating”, these benches – called ondol chairs – keep bottoms warm by maintaining temperatures from 40 to 42 degrees Celsius. Thanks to its 203cm length, around five people can share the bench while waiting for the bus.
With an integrated circuit breaker and a seating surfaced created from tempered glass three times sturdier than marble, incidents like a coffee spill in no way compromises the safety of the benches.
These bus stops will likely be just as popular in the summer, as the glass surface of the benches would keep these seats cool.
Various words of encouragement along the lines of “whoever sits here will live long and healthy” and “whoever sits here will pass the test” are written on the benches in Korean.
