Ulsan Launches Program to Protect Local Ecosystems

ULSAN, Apr. 26 (Korea Bizwire)The city of Ulsan announced on Thursday that it will launch a new ecosystem disturbance initiative to preserve biodiversity.

The project, which began in 2017 as a pilot, will also be implemented this year due to growing civic interest in fighting the influence of invasive species.

The city will buy captured invasive species every Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. from April 29 through September 30. The invasive species being targeted include bass, bluegill, bullfrogs, red-eared slider turtles, and nutria.

The city will award 5,000 won (US$4.30) for 1kg of bass, bluegill and bullfrogs, 5,000 won for one red-eared slider, and 20,000 won for one nutria.

The payment procedures are preceded by the submission and verification of the capture and the claim of compensation.
