HWACHEON, Oct. 6 (Korea Bizwire) – Hwacheon Province announced that it generated 4.2 billion won’s worth of economic activity through its Tomato Festival, which was held earlier this summer.
According to provincial officials, 115,000 tourists visited the festival, which was held from July 30 to August 2, including 800 foreigners.
Due to the many visitors, economic effects of 4.2 billion won were achieved, including 160 million won in sales of local produce.
Hwacheon officials explained that the numbers increased three percent despite the outbreak of MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome).
Officials say that the visitors gave positive ratings to the event’s programs, but complained about a lack of parking spaces and rest areas low, leaving the local government with room for improvement in the planning of next year’s event.
