Seoul, S. Korea, August 02 (Korea Biz Wire) — Though most people use various Social Networking Services (SNS) from Facebook to Kakao Talk, 6 out of 10 college students are tired of SNS. ‘Albamon’ (www.albamon.com), a website run by ‘JobKorea’ specifically for part-time jobs, conducted a survey on SNS by asking 569 students several questions and announced the results.
According to the survey, more than 91.4% of students have opened a SNS account in the past, and students have, on average, accounts on 3 different SNS providers. However, it turns out that opening an account doesn’t necessarily mean that they manage them. 15.2% of students answered that they no longer manage their accounts, and this was particularly true among female students (18.0%) than male students (12.5%).
Furthermore, the survey revealed that students use their SNS accounts selectively. On average, college students open accounts on 3 different SNS providers (3.0 for male students and 2.9 for female students), but only use 2.3 of these accounts. In particular, male students currently use 2.5 SNS services, while female student 1.8 services on average, showing that female students are abandoning their accounts more frequently than male students.
As a matter of fact, 63.1% of all recipients confessed that they’ve been tired or stressed about maintaining their SNS account in the past. This was higher among female students (67.5%) than among male students (59.0%), and the level of tiredness or stress was highest among those that answered that they no longer manage their SNS accounts. In addition, 30.6% students who have never opened an account before even answered that they’ve been tired.
The top reason for such stress was, “Because their private life is so exposed” (20.2%). This was followed by, “Because of receiving requests from unknowns or distant acquaintances” (16.1%), and, “Because it consumes too much time” (15.3%).
