SEOUL, March 17 (Korea Bizwire) — The spread of contactless work and tasks following last year’s coronavirus outbreak has led companies to bolster efforts to prevent data leaks.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information Security Industry Association conducted a study of 9,000 businesses with more than one employee and an internal network, and 4,500 internet users between the ages of 12 and 69.

Enterprises subscribing to a data protection service also jumped proportionally from 42.5 percent in 2019 to 69.5 percent in 2020.
Businesses suffering from data leak accidents shrank from 2.8 percent in 2019 to 2 percent in 2020. These accidents mostly involved ransomware attacks (59.8 percent), followed by malware (42.7 percent) and hacks (6.6 percent).
Among internet users, the perception of the importance of data protection has dropped from 95.3 percent in 2019 to 92.3 percent in 2020.
Cloud service usage stood at 35.4 percent, down by 1.4 percentage points from the previous year. IP camera usage came in at 5.5 percent, up by 1.4 percentage points.
