SEOUL, March 7 (Korea Bizwire) — The jobs that are least popular among university students are the ones that do not keep regular working hours, a survey showed Sunday.
The Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training conducted a survey of 8,353 juniors at universities nationwide to gain insight into their job preferences.
The survey showed that jobs that do not keep working hours scored 2.94 on a scale of four points, and were least popular among the respondents.
The survey calculated the students’ job preference by measuring their answers to statements saying ‘I don’t want to work for a company that does not –’ on a four point scale.
Each response was assigned a point value from 1 (not at all) to 4 (very much so). If a job records a higher than 2.5 points, it means the students shun the job.
Compared to male students, negative responses among female students were 9 percentage points higher for jobs that do not keep working hours.
The second most shunned jobs were the ones with an inconvenient commute and lower than expected wages, which each scored 2.75 points.
Workers with a higher level of academic attainment reported a higher reservation wage, which is the lowest wage rate at which they would be willing to accept a particular type of job.
Other jobs that the students shunned included non-regular jobs (2.68 points) and jobs that don’t follow the regular five-day work week (2.55 points).
