SEOUL, Oct. 24 (Korea Bizwire)A Seoul court on Thursday issued an additional suspended prison sentence for former professional baseball player Oh Jae-won on charges of receiving methylamphetamine from his acquaintance.

Oh was indicted in May for receiving some 0.2 grams of methylamphetamine from his acquaintance in November last year.

It was in addition to related charges of taking methylamphetamine on 11 occasions and receiving 2,242 tablets of Stilnox, a sleeping pill, from nine acquaintances between 2022-2023, for which he received a 2 1/2-year prison sentence. An appeal trial is underway for the ruling.

Oh was also indicted on fresh charges earlier this month of having others, including former and incumbent baseball players, get prescriptions of Stilnox and Xanax in his place on 86 occasions.

On Thursday, the Seoul Central District Court ruled that drug crimes require stern punishment due to their difficulty in detection and the potential for massive negative repercussion across society, delivering a four-month prison term suspended for two years.
