Hyundai, Kia to Supply Vehicles to UN in US$12 Mln Deal

SEOUL, March 14 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp. said Wednesday they won a deal to supply a total of 1,000 vehicles to the United Nations’ organizations over the next five years.

Hyundai and Kia, which together form the world’s fifth-biggest carmaker by sales, won the bid to export US$12 million worth of passenger vehicles to the UN and organizations under its wing, starting from this year, Hyundai Motor Group said in a statement.

The vehicles will be used by the intergovernmental organization to carry out its missions to promote global cooperation and to establish and maintain international order.

The vehicles to be supplied include Hyundai’s Elantra compact and Kia’s Sorento sport-utility vehicle, K3 compact and Pride subcompact cars.

The Korean carmaking group supplied 420 midsized buses to the UN in 2010, the statement said.

The size of the UN’s procurement market grew to $17.7 billion in 2016 due to the organization’s increased role in international political and economic issues, it said.
