SEOUL, Nov. 15 (Korea Bizwire) — Hyundai Motor Co. said Friday it has donated eight Ioniq 5 electric vehicle (EV) units and EV-charging infrastructure funds to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) as part of its strategic partnership with the humanitarian aid agency.
A hand-over ceremony was held at WFP’s fleet center in Dubai on Thursday. Participants included Lee Hang-soo, senior vice president and head of the policy support office at Hyundai Motor Group, and Sara Adam, WFP’s director of the management services division.
Hyundai Motor said the donation of its eco-friendly EVs for the WFP’s global operations reflects their shared commitment to advancing environmentally sustainable practices worldwide.
The partnership marks Hyundai Motor’s second collaboration with the U.N. following a business agreement with the U.N. Development Programme in 2020, aimed at accelerating progress toward the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
The agreement with WFP was formalized in July, when Hyundai Motor President and CEO Chang Jae-hoon and Cindy McCain, WFP’s executive director, met in Seoul.
