INCHEON, Aug. 6 (Korea Bizwire) — A special habitat facility will be built in Incheon’s Songdo International Business District to protect endangered bird species.
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority will create a wetland habitat that does not fully submerge even during high tide, allowing birds to rest after feeding at a nearby tidal flat.
The Songdo Tidal Flats (Ramsar Site, Wetland of International Importance) are home to various endangered animals, including black-faced spoonbills, black-tailed gulls, vega gulls, and shorebirds.
There are only 2,700 black-faced spoonbills alive around the world, and 200 to 300 of them come to the Songdo tidal flats to lay eggs.
