SEOUL, Sept. 7 (Korea Bizwire)According to the Korean Education Center (KEC) in São Paulo, interest among university students in studying abroad in South Korea has never been higher.

Since holding its first study abroad seminar in June, the center has been swamped with translating and distributing Korean education brochures and establishing relationships between Korean and Brazilian universities.

On August 22 and 23, the KEC also manned a booth at an international education expo held at the University of Brasilia.

Among the 17 booths representing Canada, Australia, Germany and Japan and other countries, the South Korean booth was one of the decidedly popular ones. Interest was so high that the booth ran out of brochures and had to print makeshift information papers on the spot.

A day after the expo ended, the KEC employees headed to the southern city of Porte Alegre to open another study abroad booth and a seminar to coincide with the Korean Week event held by the Korean Embassy. More than the 110 attendees who had RSVP-ed to the event showed up, almost causing the seminar to be delayed.

The day after (August 25), the KEC team dashed off to another international education expo, this time hosted by the Brazilian Education Foundation ETAPA. Here, they passed out brochures and provided information about South Korean universities and rubbed shoulders with representatives from American and Canadian universities like UCLA and UBC.

Regarding their busy schedule and the interested people they met, the director of the KEC in São Paulo told Yonhap News that increasing the number of Brazilian students who want to study in South Korea is necessary to “strengthen cooperation between the two countries”.

The KEC’s busy schedule looks to stay that way in the coming weeks. The center’s application for attendance to the upcoming “EDU Fair” to be held in São Paulo on September 23 and 24 was accepted. Officials announced that they are currently speaking with South Korean universities to send representatives.

On October 7, the KEC will hold a South Korean University Fair in São Paulo’s Koreatown.
