GYEONGSAN, June 15 (Korea Bizwire)A recent study showed that in an ordinary environment, being exposed to bad odor-causing material for a long time can deteriorate immune function.

Researchers from the Daegu Catholic University published an academic paper showing that when rats were exposed to bad odor-causing chemical materials, their immune function deteriorated.

The research team identified that typical bad odor-causing materials such as ammonia and dimethyl disulfide reduce the number of immune cells, while suppressing the growth and differentiation of T lymphocytes, the core cells in the immune system.

In addition, the research team found that ammonia can also cause atopy.

Unlike existing studies that focused on the impact of bad odors on emotion, the new study shed light on the correlation between bad odors and the immune system for the first time.

The research paper was published in the June edition of the international academic journal Toxicology and Industrial Health.
