JEONJU, Jan. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — Agricultural and fish products from North Jeolla Province have, for the very first time, surpassed US$300 million in exports last year, one-third of which were attributed to the province’s signature seaweed.
North Jeolla Province reported US$318 million in agricultural and fish exports last year, which was a 41.5 percent increase from the previous year.
Seaweed accounted for the majority of exports at US$106 million (34.2 percent of all exports). This included dried (US$61.1 million) and seasoned lavers (US$45.2 million).
Seaweed was followed by noodles (US$46.5 million), sweets (US$15.1 million), chicken (US$14.2 million), and fermented products (US$12.7 million).
The majority of the exports went to China (US$67.1 million), followed by Thailand ($53.3 million), and Japan (US$45.2 million).
“This is a record-breaking performance,” said Cho Ho-il, the director of the agricultural food industry in North Jeolla Province. “We will focus on quality control and pioneer new channels to expand our exports.”
