SEOUL, April 14 (Korea Bizwire) – Samsung Electronics is launching a research and development program in pursuit of new autonomous navigation technology.
According to Samsung’s recruiting website, the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology is seeking experienced researchers to work in the field of autonomous driving.
Autonomous vehicles are automobiles that can drive to a destination on their own, using cameras that perceive the surrounding environment and GPS to navigate.
Currently, many carmakers as well as IT giants such as Google and Apple are competing to develop autonomous driving technology.
Samsung notified the industry that it would strengthen R&D related to autonomous navigation with a corporate restructure that took place last year.
Industry watchers speculate that Samsung might jump into the car business starting with telematics, CID, HUD and semiconductors for vehicles.
