SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics announced on Monday that its Internet of Things (IoT) platform, SmartThings, has surpassed 20 million users in South Korea, driven by the rapid growth in artificial intelligence (AI) appliance sales and enhanced platform features in 2024.
SmartThings has become a critical hub for managing Samsung’s AI-enabled appliances, which saw high connectivity rates this year.
For example, 92% of buyers of the Bespoke AI Steam Robot Vacuum, launched in April, connected it to SmartThings, while 80% of purchasers of the Bespoke AI Combo Washer-Dryer, released in February, did the same.
Popular SmartThings features include:
- Home Care: Remote diagnostics and management of connected devices.
- Energy Saving: Monitoring and controlling energy usage.
- Pet Care: Tracking pet locations and controlling appliances based on pet needs.
New functionalities, such as in-app service requests for detected device malfunctions and the conversion of saved energy into membership points, have also contributed to the platform’s growing popularity.
SmartThings continues to expand its ecosystem, offering seamless integration with over 300 partner brands. More than 1,000 users in South Korea now utilize SmartThings to connect 100 or more devices, automating their routines for a more convenient lifestyle.
“The surge in AI appliance adoption has diversified how customers use SmartThings,” a Samsung representative said. “We will continue to introduce features that enhance daily life and convenience.”
As the platform grows, Samsung aims to solidify SmartThings’ role as a cornerstone of smart home technology in South Korea and beyond.
