SEOUL, July 27 (Korea Bizwire) — The U.S. state of Arizona has designated October 21 as a day to celebrate the traditional Korean attire of hanbok, according to the Asian American Youth Council (AAYC).
Among 50 U.S. states, Arizona became the second after New Jersey to declare “Hanbok Day.”
The declaration signed by Arizona Governor Doug Ducey stipulated that the hanbok is a part of Korea’s traditional culture, society and history that have continued for more than 2000 years. It also stipulated that the hanbok is Korea’s traditional attire.
The governor noted that the state decided to designate October 21 as a day to celebrate the traditional attire since Hanbok Day was first celebrated in South Korea on that date starting in 1996.
