DAEJU, Jan. 20 (Korea Bizwire)Christian groups have put out a statement condemning radical religious sentiment protesting against the construction of a mosque in a residential area of Daehyeong-dong district in Daegu.

The Coalition of Evangelical Churches in Korea released a statement on Thursday, condemning the radical Christian groups for “holding barbeque parties and placing pig heads at the construction site of a mosque in Daegu city to jeer at Islamic culture.”

“They are losing the support of the local community,” they said. “We wish for the recovery of a traditional Christian culture centering on welcome and service.”

“This is not a problem of taking sides. It is a turning point for Korean society and the church to root out bad practices of hatred and segregation and foster the recovery of a noble tradition that welcomes and serves the people,” the statement said.

“A number of Korean churches have been introducing aggressive missionary policies that are offensive to other cultures. They did not hesitate to spread a sense of hatred and segregation against other religious groups that have come to our country peacefully and legally, especially against Muslims.”

“The Muslim community in Daehyeong-dong includes many children and making baseless claims that they are terrorists is an act that edges closer towards terrorism. The Korean church should exterminate the missionary policy attempting to domineer, hate and segregate other cultures,” the statement said.
