INCHEON, Sept. 28 (Korea Bizwire) — In response to the recent decision by an apartment complex to allow entry of delivery motorcycles only via underground parking lots, delivery personnel and businesses have decided to reject all deliveries to the complex.
Rider Union, a labor union representing gig workers of food delivery apps, announced that it had decided to suspend all deliveries to an apartment complex in Incheon, west of Seoul, starting on Monday.
The residents’ committee at the apartment complex decided to allow motorcycles to enter through underground parking lots only, effective since Sept. 10.
“Underground parking lots are slippery, with a higher risk of accidents for motorcycles. Even for experienced riders, underground parking lots often become the site of various accidents,” Rider Union said.
“Delivery riders tend to avoid underground parking lots because all liabilities arising from accidents in underground parking lots fall upon the riders themselves.”
The residents’ committee said that the ground level of the apartment complex is comprised of gardens and pathways, with entry of all vehicles including two-wheeled vehicles now banned.
“We’ve continuously notified the delivery personnel of this restriction. However, they have been resorting to speeding and noise pollution as they illegally traveled throughout the complex, risking children’s safety,” the committee said.
