BUSAN, Feb. 28 (Korea Bizwire)Emergency response teams in Busan are implementing the use of drones in training exercises.

On February 27, over 80 police, emergency response and local government personnel were at Busan’s Songdo Beach to partake in a training exercise. The scenario was Songdo Beach’s cable cars had come to a halt due to a malfunction and passengers stuck inside the dangling cabins in mid-air needed to be evacuated.

A member of the response team moved along the overhead line to reach the cable cars hanging in the air over water.

Once the operative arrived at the cable car, a drone holding a string attached to a rope floated up, and by pulling this string, the response team member brought up the rope with which the trapped passengers could be evacuated.

For cable cars reachable from land, a ladder truck was stationed for the evacuation procedure.

During poor weather conditions with high wind speeds of 15 m/s or higher, the cable cars on Songdo Beach are closed. (Image: Yonhap)
