SEOUL, Oct. 28 (Korea Bizwire)South Korean information and communications technology (CT) companies are diversifying networks for customer service and businesses to protect themselves from network failures.

The operator of the mobile financial transaction application Toss plans to duplex its intra-network next week by joining an additional mobile carrier, following an hour-long internet blackout caused Monday by a massive hacking attack on KT Corp., a major telecom operator.

Kakao Pay, the mobile payment service arm of Kakao Corp. has ‘triplexed’ its network system by joining data networks provided by three different mobile carriers.

Mobile carriers, too, each incorporate secondary networks to minimize damage arising from various network failures.

Search giant Naver Corp. offers customer service through its ‘triplex’ network and uses networks from three different mobile carriers for business.

A number of game developers are going beyond network duplexing to utilize cloud servers in order to minimize service failures.

“As much as the simplicity of payment is important for logistics firms, customer privacy and service stability are very important for ICT firms,” an official at Nexon Co. said.
