SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Korea Bizwire)Riding a bicycle is no longer a pipe dream for those with physical disabilities.

A research team spearheaded by Prof. Shin Dong-jun from Chung-Ang University announced Monday that it had developed ImProB, a robot bicycle that uses an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm to measure the muscular status of the user and generate optimum signals for muscular contraction to replace damaged motor nerves.

The new technology allows the disabled to ride bicycles using their own muscles, without any additional assistance from external motor orthosis.

The research team will participate in Cybathlon 2020, to be held on Nov. 14, as the only South Korean team.
